What does it mean to buy direct?

This means that you buy a portion of the live animal prior to slaughter. The animal is then slaughtered and butchered in a separate process. In application it follows three basic steps:

Step 1 Contract and Deposit: The customer signs a contract of purchase with Buffalo Dan, LLC. specifying the desired amount and pays a deposit for the purchase.

Step 2 Harvest and Processing: As a separate service, Buffalo Dan, LLC. arranges for the humane field harvest with the butcher. After harvest the butcher dry ages and then cuts and packages the meat. This takes several weeks.

Step 3 Pick Up and Payment: Buffalo Dan, LLC. will receive the packaged meat from the butcher and transport it to the scheduled pick up location. At this point the customer will be able to receive the meat after making payment.

Purchase Options

Customers have the following purchase options available. Please keep in mind that a Virginia sales tax will be added to the purchase and separate butcher fees.

The prices for the winter 2024-2025 are now set. We currently plan to harvest 5 bison this winter.

Early Contract Discount

This year we are offering a discount for early contracts. The discount will be on both the per pound price of the meat and the separate butcher fee before taxes.

• Contracts completed in July will have a 20% discount.
• Contracts completed in August will have a 15% discount.
• Contracts completed in September will have a 10% discount.
• Contracts completed in October will have a 5% discount.

Please note that a completed contract consists of both a completed and signed contract and a deposit.

  A 1/16 bison purchase is available if you can find a second party also willing to purchase 1/16. These two orders will be treated as a 1/8 bison order and delivered as such.
